Finding Zen at ORD
Chicago O'Hare is one of the biggest, busiest airports in the world. My possibly soon-to-be home airport is a major hub for many airlines, bringing thousands of people through it's gates daily. With all the chaos and weather delays ORD can at times get a bit...crowded. Personally I like to stay OUT of chaos' way and basically hide from passengers, especially while in uniform. When in uniform people like to ask questions about gates or connecting flights (IDK), ask for directions (IDK i'm not based here or have never been here), small talk about being a flight attendant or the latest in aviation news, ect.
Up a flight of stairs on the mezzanine level in the G terminal is a magical oasis called the Urban Garden. I like to take my food up there and eat, or sometimes ill just bring a book and hang out. There are tables surrounding these tall, vertical PVC gardens growing herbs, lettuce, edible flowers and tomatoes. Resturants throughout the airport source ingredients from the gardens, signage located throughout the foliage shows where each plant is headed when ready! Another great feature on this level is a yoga room! Yoga is not usually on the forefront of even the biggest yogi travelers mind while in an airport, so it never is very crowded. This little hideaway is such a slice of bliss in such a crazy location!
Next time you are stuck in Chicago, stop by and visit our green friends on take a few deep breaths in the yoga room. You'll be happy you did!
